WHO WE ARE
Our story didn't begin in a garage or basement as a hobby, nor do we have lineage in bamboo, fiberglass, or varnish. Gatti is a modern group rooted in hybrid composites and advanced engineering, dedicated to creating the finest hyper-performance fly rods obtainable. The only attribute we bring from the past is our passion for unparalleled performance and beauty. Gatti’s performance is derived through scientific disciplines. Our science-driven method is pure and impartial; it strips away flawed ideas and refines only the best designs validated by testing and results. We are located in the Val Trompia region in the Italian Alps.

We developed our proprietary low-mass, thin-wall design over 40 years ago, and it remains the foundation of our rods today. Our single platform design creates a spineless blank that's both lightweight and robust. This spineless design virtually eliminates torsional instability or twisting. The result? Superior castability, longer distance, precise line control, and pinpoint accuracy.

Sandro Gatti
Sandro’s journey began with humble industrial roots. Known for his tireless work ethic and disciplined engineering focus, he built a company specializing in composite precision molds and components for European firearms manufacturers.
A passionate angler, Sandro began importing and distributing fly-fishing gear in 1982, becoming the exclusive distributor for Sage and RST fly rods in Italy. Frustrated by the performance of available fly rods, he sold his engineering company to pursue his true passion: designing and crafting remarkable high-performance fly rods.
Four decades later, his dedication endures. Sandro continues to innovate, blending science and craftsmanship to create our remarkable fly rods.
Sandro lives with his collie, Grace, in Gardone Val Trompia, Italy, just a couple of kilometers from the workshop.
Joe Lacey
Joe, like Sandro, also comes from humble beginnings. His outdoor journey began with rock climbing in Yosemite with the Boy Scouts and ultimately led to big walls on high mountains everywhere. As Joe says, 'Climbing is fantastic, but my real passion is fly-fishing.'
Joe started fly-fishing with his grandfather at the age of nine. His connection with Gatti began in 1998 when he acquired a Gatti blank from Sandro and had a rod built. 'I never picked up another rod after that,' he says.
Joe and Sandro began collaborating. Together, they refined the science-driven process to develop next-level fly rods that continue to outperform all others. Now, after 40 years of progressive development, engineering, and testing, we are excited to introduce the latest iterations of Gatti Fly Rods— in North America.
Joe lives with his lab, Molly, in Hayden Lake, Idaho, USA, just 8,500 kilometers from the workshop.
